About Wil Sargisson
Wil Sargisson began piano lessons at age five in his home town of Napier, New Zealand under the tutelage of his father, a bassist. Grades and scales were deliberately avoided; a journey into blues and boogie woogie was chosen. By age 14 he was performing solo at jazz festivals throughout the North Island. At 17 he released his solo debut album which made the final 3 in the running for NZ Jazz Album of the Year. That same year he travelled to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival to perform by invitation at the famous Tipitina’s club. At age 20 he took a job working aboard cruise ships, a journey which saw him visit 45 countries and back countless travelling performers, including the likes of Charro, The Coasters, and The Platters. In 2008, aged 28, Wil moved to the Gold Coast of Australia and began working with the renowned Australian jazz band Galapagos Duck, as well as a wide variety of freelance and recording session work. He has contributed his piano playing to nearly 40 albums, and performed with Renee Geyer, Deni Hines, James Morrison, Mary Coughlan and Bob Downe. He now lives in Brisbane where he performs several times a week and teaches part time at Jazz Music Institute.
