When a convoy of 110cc scooters take off across Queensland each year, it’s not just about the ride, it’s about raising funds, awareness and hope for veterans and their families. That’s the mission of Scootaville, a not for profit and Kedron-Wavell community partner.
The organisation was founded by Trevor Benneworth, fondly known as Trev, a veteran driven to make a difference. “After retiring, I wanted to do something meaningful,” Trev explains.
“I had this idea of riding scooters across the state, stopping at towns along the way, and raising funds for veterans.
“What started as a fun concept has now grown into something much bigger.”
Presented by the Radschool Association Inc, Scootaville proudly supports Legacy and the Air Force Association, organisations dedicated to helping veterans and their families.
More than 20 riders will embark on a three-week journey across Queensland from 24 August to 11 September.
Starting and ending in Brisbane, the group will stop in Toowoomba, Goondiwindi, St George, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Charleville, Blackall, Barcaldine, Emerald, Biloela, Gayndah and Kingaroy.
“At each stop, riders host community events, barbeques, and interactive activities,” Trev shares.
“It’s a chance for Queenslanders in the regions to connect with our cause while enjoying the festivities.
“The reception we get from locals is heartwarming.
“People come up to us in small towns and want to share their stories.
“Some are veterans themselves, others have family who served.
“It’s an opportunity for us to listen, connect, and show them they’re not forgotten.”
For Kedron-Wavell Chief Executive Officer, Lyndon Broome, supporting Scootaville was a natural partnership.
“We’re proud of our RSL origins and privileged to have members who have served, and continue to serve our country,” Lyndon shared.
“Trev is a longstanding Kedron-Wavell member, and it’s an honour to support the incredible work he and his team are doing to shine a light on veteran causes.
“Being a community club, we exist to care for our members – and gladly support the causes close to their hearts.
“We’re also excited to host the official send off at Kedron-Wavell this year, with a special barbecue breakfast and guard of honour for the riders.”
For Trev, partnerships like these make the long rides all the more rewarding.
“We can’t do this without the support of organisations like Kedron-Wavell.
“Their generosity helps us cover the costs of the ride, which means more of the money we raise goes directly to supporting veterans.”
And for Lyndon, the partnership is about making a greater difference.
“It’s not just about what happens inside our club, but about the impact we can make outside these four walls.”
