The Queensland Government’s announcement of a record-breaking $16 million in the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) marks the largest single round of grants supporting grassroots organisations and community services across the state.

Kedron-Wavell CEO, Lyndon Broome, said the organisation is proud to be part of a funding system that delivers meaningful impact across the state.

“As a community club, we’re driven by purpose—and one of the most powerful ways we contribute is by helping fund initiatives that directly benefit Queenslanders,” Mr Broome said.

“From rural rescue services to sporting equipment, mental health support, and youth programs, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund supports the very heart of our communities. We’re honoured to play a role in that.”

The funds generated by Kedron-Wavell and other community-focused clubs help enable grants of up to $35,000, providing essential resources to groups that often rely on volunteer support and limited budgets.

At a local level, Kedron-Wavell invests directly in the wellbeing of its members and neighbours through initiatives such as its on-site chaplaincy service — a safe and confidential source of care for members.

Kedron-Wavell Chaplain, Nicole Whitbread, said the values at the core of the GCBF — care, connection, and support — align closely with the work she does every day.

“I have the privilege of connecting with our members and learning more about how we can ensure they are getting the care and support they need in the club and beyond,” Ms Whitbread said.

“Knowing that the GCBF exists to support more communities to thrive is important to me because it speaks to the impact of our club in the local community, our city and our state.”

Kedron-Wavell also runs its own annual Community Grants program.

“We’re privileged to contribute to our local community through our own Community Grants program,” Mr Broome said.

“This year, we’re giving a record $200,000 to not-for-profit organisations making a difference on the lives of individuals and families in our community.”

Applications are open until 31 July 2025 for Kedron-Wavell’s Community Grants Program.
