In the heart of Chermside, two community-focused organisations, Kedron-Wavell and The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation (TPCHF), have partnered for more than 30 years to make a lasting impact in Southeast Queensland.
A partnership rooted in shared values of care, community and connection, the collaboration helps fund essential patient care programs and supported life-changing medical research at The Prince Charles Hospital, one of Australia’s leading centres for heart and lung care.
“At The Common Good, an initiative of TPCHF, our mission is simple: to help people live healthier for longer,” CEO of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, Steve Francia shared.
“Our work spans support for medical research in lung disease, heart disease, mental health and ageing, as well as clinical innovation and patient care.
“Partnerships like the one we share with Kedron-Wavell are what bring this vision to life.”
For Kedron-Wavell CEO, Lyndon Broome, the partnership is a vital part of the club’s commitment to the local community.
“We’re proud to support such an important local institution.
“The Prince Charles Hospital serves over 400,000 people each year, many of them from our own neighbourhood,” Lyndon said.
“To be able to contribute to their comfort, care and recovery through initiatives like the Charlie’s Angels volunteer program is incredibly meaningful to us.”
With Kedron-Wavell’s support, the Charlie’s Angels program continues to thrive with 117 volunteers giving over 31,000 hours of their time across 33 departments each year.
People like Janette, a retired hospital staff member turned volunteer, are the heart and soul of this initiative.
After 22 years working at the hospital, Janette now volunteers in the Specialist Outpatients Department, helping patients navigate their appointments with warmth and kindness.
“Volunteering makes such a difference with just a little effort,” Janette said.
“It’s amazing how a simple act of kindness can ease someone’s anxiety and it makes you feel good, too.”
The Foundation’s CEO, Steve Francia, emphasised the real-world impact of the partnership, highlighting its effect on many members of the community.
“Our collaboration with Kedron-Wavell enables us to support patients, families, and hospital staff in a really tangible way,” Steve said.
“The comfort and human connection that volunteers provide can directly impact clinical outcomes. That’s powerful.”
